Pickathon, the annual Happy Valley hoedown, has revealed the preliminary lineup for this summer’s 21st annual festival. You can expect Pickathon’s usual blend of folk and world music, plus a dash of grunge, desert rock, and New Orleans jazz. Headliners include Americana duo Mandolin Orange; Nathaniel Rateliff (appearing both solo and with his band the Night Sweats); and Texas trio Khrungbin, who draw on psychedelic rock, soul, dub, and Thai funk.

Who else catches our eye? Lucius, who always put on a crackling live show; Tuarag guitarist Mdou Moctar; and the entrancing grooves of Sudan Archives. And festival attendees shouldn’t skip rising Portland artist Black Belt Eagle Scout, who was picked up by big-deal Omaha label Saddle Creek last year—she blends post-rock, riot grrrl, and the rhythmic pulse of tribal drumming to ferocious effect.

Pickathon takes place August 2–4 at Pendarvis Farm, and weekend tickets are on sale now. ж
